Ashton to coach Bath
01/11/2005 - 17:42:08Brian Ashton is to take from over Australian John Connolly as Bath’s head coach.
Connolly, who had already announced his intention to return Down Under, will be replaced by the 59-year-old, who is currently the Rugby Football Union’s national academy manager.
Lancastrian Ashton will leave his RFU post at the end of this year and return to Bath, where he coached between between 1989 and 1996.
He was also Irish national coach for two years, and served as part of Sir Clive Woodward’s England backroom team.
“I have always seen my main strength as coaching, and the move to Bath gives me the opportunity to do hands-on coaching on a daily basis,” said Ashton.
