Afoa cited for tackle on Jones10/04/2012 - 18:03:02
Ulster’s star prop John Afoa might miss the province’s crucial Heineken Cup semi-final against Edinburgh after he was cited today for an alleged ‘tip tackle’ on Munster full back Felix Jones.
The former All Black is due to appear at a disciplinary hearing in Dublin on Thursday where he will learn his fate.
If found guilty, Afoa will face a suspension which could range from three weeks to over ten weeks depending on the perceived severity of the offence.
Law 10.4 (j) of the IRB rules prohibits “lifting a player from the ground and either dropping or driving that player’s head and/or upper body into the ground whilst the player’s feet are off the ground.”
Match referee Romain Poite didn’t penalise Afoa for the tackle which happened early in the second half however, after reviewing the incident, citing commissioner Peter Larter of England filed a complaint for dangerous play.
