Best believes Ulster shockon the cards
Rory Best feels the gap has narrowed sufficiently between Ulster and Leinster for a shock victory to be possible in Saturday’s Heineken Cup final. Leinster are warm favourites to win a third European crown in four years and have an all-conquering record over Ulster. Yet strange things have happened already in this year’s competition to give Best hope.
“The reason Leinster have such a great record against us is because for years they were a great side and we weren’t,” he said.
“We are two good sides now and we’re due one [a victory]. Leinster may feel they have a recipe to beat us but the record is there to be broken.
“We would gladly swap all the last six or eight league defeats we’ve had against Leinster to win this one and Leinster would feel the same. That’s what the Heineken Cup means to everyone.”
Now they have reached the ultimate stage, a Heineken Cup final in Twickenham in front of over 80,000, he feels they are ready to make the ultimate step.
“We have dreamed and talked about being in this position, it is just as fantastic time to be involved with Ulster Rugby,” Best admitted.
“We have one more obstacle to overcome, and the important thing now is to make sure we play the game and not the occasion. We’re going to do our homework on them and we will be ready.”
