Hardman actor Ray Winstone says drinking is Ireland's "national sport" and admits to enjoying binge-drinking by downing two bottles of vodka at a time while here.
The English actor developed a fondness for the Russian drink after spending months in Ireland at film sets alone.
The 47-year-old explains: "I'd be mad not to worry about it. It can't do you any good. It takes me three days to get over it and then I might not drink again for a month."
Winstone cites lengthy movie shoots as the main reason behind his taste for vodka.
"On a long job you get a lot of time off and it can be very lonely. You might not be working but the rest of the cast and crew are."
Winstone recently spent six months in Ireland filming King Arthur, where he found it hard to resist boozing.
He adds, "The national sport there is drinking, I thought: "I've got to get out or I will die here."
"I moved from Dublin to Wicklow and did the same but with nicer scenery."
