TV3 apologises for 9/11 joke on The Seven O’Clock show

Bosses at TV3 have apologised to viewers for ‘a joke’ concerning 9/11 on The Seven O'Clock Show.

The ‘gag’ was made by comedian Andrew Stanley on Thursday evening, and although no viewers lodged official complaints the broadcaster felt it was “not very tasteful”.

The funnyman was asked by a viewer to share a joke that receives the best reaction, he replied, "I have one. It's kind of a controversial one."

After a short period of hesitation he continued: “I saw two American girls walk into a bar on Grafton Street and order two Irish Car Bombs, which is a very popular student drink in America.

"The guy got really offended and said I won't make them for you but I'll make something else.

"So he got two shot glasses, filled them with sambuca, set them on fire and said:

“'There's your twin towers. Have a nice trip'."

Hosts Lucy Kennedy and Martin King firstly looked extremely awkward before attempting to change the subject and take a break.

TV3 have since released a statement saying that, "Andrew made a joke, that wasn't very funny and not very tasteful.

"Although Andrew did warn viewers, TV3 apologises if it caused any offence to anyone. Martin and Lucy moved on as swiftly as they could.”

Stanley was appearing on the show to promote MOVE for Movember.
