TV host Ryan Seacrest denies allegations of inappropriate behaviour

American television presenter and producer Ryan Seacrest has disputed “reckless” allegations from a former colleague that he behaved inappropriately towards her.

The accusations from the woman, whom Seacrest worked with at E! News, have not been detailed, but the television channel is now investigating.

In a statement, Seacrest said he was an “advocate for women” and denied he had done anything wrong.

He said: “Recently, someone that worked… (with) me nearly a decade ago at E! News, came forward with a complaint suggesting I behaved inappropriately toward her.

“If I made her feel anything but respected, I am truly sorry. I dispute these reckless allegations and I plan to cooperate with any corporate inquiries that may result.”

He added: “I treat all my colleagues with kindness, dignity, and understanding, as this is a principle that’s core to who I am.

“Throughout my 25 years in the entertainment industry, the majority of my co-workers have been women, and I’ve endeavoured to foster a positive work environment of mutual respect and courtesy, as that’s how I believe it should be.

“I’m distraught that anyone or any situation would call that into question. I’m proud of my workplace reputation, and believe my track record will speak for itself. I’m an advocate for women. I will continue to support their voices.”

A spokeswoman from E! confirmed the channel had “started an investigation”.

Seacrest is well-known for being the host of American Idol, is the producer of hit show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and also presents American morning talk show Live With Kelly And Ryan alongside Kelly Ripa.

He is the latest in a series of high-profile figures within the entertainment industry to be accused of inappropriate behaviour.

It comes just hours after US actors Tom Sizemore, who starred in Saving Private Ryan, and Jeffrey Tambor, who features in Amazon TV series Transparent, both denied allegations of sexual misconduct.
