My Big Fat Gypsy Life on the Run (TV3, 9pm)

This special episode follows the free spirits of a travelling clan as they test the limits of the law.

For centuries the commons of England were lawful stopping places for gypsies and travellers. Today, an endless cycle of invasion and eviction brings frequent conflicts with the rest of society.

While many travellers continue to roam, their presence is rarely welcomed. Should they have the right to pitch up on public parks and roadsides? If not, it could spell the end of this traditional way of life. In a constant game of cat and mouse with local residents and councils, the clan face a long harsh winter. Summer brings happier times as 19-year-old Helen plans a spectacular big fat gypsy wedding.

Blinging Up Baby: You Won’t Believe It! (Channel 5, 9pm)

Some people may not see the point in buying expensive clothes for kids, especially when the designer gear will only end up covered in stains before being outgrown in what can seem like a matter of weeks.

However, a growing number of parents are choosing to dress their young children in glamorous outfits. In fact, the trend is so widespread that following last year’s one-off documentary, Channel 5 is now bringing us an entire series devoted to it.

In this first episode, we meet mum-of-three Lisa Marie Whitcombe, who is entering two of her daughters into a beauty pageant, and Candi Donaldson, who has already taught six-year-old Frankie how to put on make-up and false nails.

The mothers also explain why they believed that by making their tots look their best, they are giving them the confidence to face the world.

No Offence (Channel 4, 9pm)

Racial tensions in the area are on the rise when an Asian woman is murdered in what is suspected to be a racist attack. So, the pressure is on when an undercover operation is organised to bring the prime suspect to justice.

Deering is finally allowed to resume her place on the serial killer investigation, but time may be running out for her team to catch the murderer, as Dr Peep is convinced that he has missed his fix and will strike again very soon. Crime drama, starring Joanna Scanlan, Kate O’Flynn and Elaine Cassidy.

24 Hours in the Past (BBC1, 9pm)

Ruth Goodman and Fi Glover reveal they have been saving their most gruelling challenge for last. Having spent the past 72 hours experiencing the grim reality of life in Victorian Britain, the six time-hopping celebrities must now ensure the horrors of the workhouse, where there are no rewards and only punishment.

Stripped of their already-meagre belongings, Ann Widdecombe, Alistair McGowan, Zoe Lucker, Colin Jackson, Tyger Drew-Honey and Miquita Oliver face relentless graft under the yoke of the workhouse master and matron, who punish anyone who dares to break the rules, and have no time for former MP Ann’s acts of rebellion.

Last in the series.

Starter for 10 (BBC2, 11.20pm)

(2006) Inspired by David Nicholls’s comic novel of the same name, the film remains faithful to the hugely enjoyable page-turner, and accomplishes that rare feat of surpassing the source material.

James McAvoy is scarily believable as a socially awkward 18-year-old, who is ill equipped to woo the woman of his dreams – but that doesn’t stop him trying.

After enrolling at Bristol University in the 1980s, working-class Brian tries to impress the object of his desires by joining the institution’s University Challenge team.

Unfortunately, his plan has a few flaws... Alice Eve, Catherine Tate, Charles Dance, Lindsay Duncan and Mark Gatiss (almost unrecognisable as quizmaster Bamber Gascoigne) also star.
