Stars remember fashion's Louise Wilson

Victoria Beckham and Kanye West were among the stars who have attended a memorial service to pay tribute to fashion’s Professor Louise Wilson.

Designers John Rocha and Donna Karen also turned up to pay their respects at the ceremony in St Paul’s Cathedral, London.

Louise, who was the director of Central Saint Martins MA fashion degree, had been credited with training a string of British fashion designers. These included Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane and Stella McCartney.

The 52-year-old also worked as a design director for Donna Karan in New York between 1997 and 2002.

In 2008, she received an OBE for her services to fashion and to education.

Other famous faces who attended the memorial included Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet and Harold Tillman, former head of the British Fashion Council.

Shortly after Louise’s death in May last year, the Council announced the news on its website and expressed its “deep sadness”.

It said: “She is attributed with helping develop some of the leading lights of London Fashion Week.

“It is hard to imagine Central Saint Martins or British fashion without her. She will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with her family and friends”, it concluded.

At the end of the service today, Kanye, dressed in a black trousers and crisp white blazer, was seen being led from the cathedral by personal security.

He kept a low profile – clutching what appeared to be an order of service – walking briskly down the right hand side of the cathedral steps to avoid photographers. A black car with tinted windows then whisked him away.

Louise, 52, is believed to have died in her sleep while visiting her sister.

The memorial service coincided with the start of London Fashion Week in the capital.

More than 300 mourners, including some of the professor’s former students, gathered on the steps after the ceremony.

A woman on horseback, dressed in a black hat, sweeping dress and veil was also seen waiting outside the cathedral after the service.
