The mystery of who killed Archie Mitchell was finally solved tonight as Stacey Slater was revealed to be his murderer.

Actress Lacey Turner was told just 30 minutes before the special live episode of EastEnders, broadcast to mark the soap’s 25th anniversary, that she was the killer.

Archie was bludgeoned with a bust of Queen Victoria in the Albert Square pub after alienating many of the residents.

He raped Stacey while she was struggling to control her bipolar disorder, and she finally admitted killing him in the closing minutes of tonight’s episode.
