SPOILERS: Dramatic scene will leave Coronation Street characters fighting for life

'Coronation Street' characters will be left fighting for their lives after a minibus crash, it has been revealed.

Bosses of the ITV soap are currently working on a new storyline which will see some of Weatherfield's cobbled street's most loved characters involved in a devastating clash of vehicles early next year.

The staff of the Underworld underwear factory will be caught up in the horrific crash as they embark on a work outing in a Street Cars minibus driven by Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).

The details of the crash are currently being kept under wraps but it has been revealed that more than one character will be taken to hospital as a result of the crash and at least one of their lives will be on the line.

The dramatic stunt is to be filmed before Christmas and suitable locations are currently being explored to ensure the scenes - which are set to air in the New Year - are as spectacular as possible.

Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that Tina O'Brien is to reprise her role as Sarah Louise Platt - daughter to Gail Platt (Helen Worth) and sister to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) - in early 2015.

In a statement, Tina said: "I am delighted to be returning.

"Sarah has a lot of history and unfinished business on the street and I'm looking forward to finding out what she's been up to and why she's returned home."
