Somebody That I Used To Know tops UK's 2012 singles chart

Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' has been crowned the UK's biggest-selling single of 2012.

The track, which also features New Zealand-born singer Kimbra, has sold a massive 1.28 million copies since hitting the Number One slot in the charts in February, where it stayed for five weeks.

The laid-back tune is only one of 123 songs in the whole of the 60-year Official UK Chart history to have scored more than a million sales.

Canadian starlet Carly Rae Jepsen's pop anthem 'Call Me Maybe' comes in a close second, while FUN's 'We Are Young' featuring singer Janelle Monae takes third position.

The top three tracks all feature on Spotify's most-played song lists all around the world. The top 10 is rounded out by two dance numbers by David Guetta and Flo Rida, both featuring singer Sia, as well as chart-toppers by Nicki Minaj, Jessie J and Maroon 5. Asian pop sensation Psy comes in at number nine with his infectious 'Gangnam Style', and Emeli Sande - who also has the UK's biggest-selling album of the year - finishes off the list.

However, the Official Charts Company predicts a big shake-up in record sales with the advent of Christmas, which is always a game-changer for the music industry.

Vying for Number One will be 'The X Factor' winner's song as well as the Hillsborough Charity single, which features Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams and former Spice Girl Mel C.

Last year's best-selling single was Adele's 'Someone Like You'.
