Penelope Cruz on board for Zoolander 2

Penelope Cruz is to star in 'Zoolander 2'.

The 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' actress will star alongside Ben Stiller in the upcoming comedy sequel, Deadline reports.

Stiller will reprise his role as the dim-witted supermodel Derek Zoolander while it's been rumoured Will Ferrell will return as fashion mogul Jacobim Mugato and Owen Wilson as Zoolander's rival Hansel McDonald.

The 'Dodgeball' actor directed and contributed to scriptwriting for the first film but 'The Leftovers' star Justin Theroux will now direct from his own script for Paramount Pictures and Stiller will produce alongside Stuart Cornfeld for Red Hour.

It is so far unclear what role Cruz, who has a small part in the upcoming Sacha Baron Cohen comedy 'Grimsby' and recently wrapped on Julio Medem's 'Ma ma' in Spain, will take on in 'Zoolander 2'.

The original 'Zoolander' saw Stiller fully commit to his stupid role, from his "Blue Steel" pose to the catwalk showdown between himself and Hansel, to the freak gasoline fight accident.

The 48-year-old actor has been looking to make the sequel for 13-years now but has yet to confirm whether his 87-year-old father Jerry Stiller - who is best known for his role in the sitcom 'The King of Queens' - will be reprising his role as model agent Maury Ballstein.

Meanwhile, Stiller is reportedly also set to bring his despicable fitness guru character White Goodman back to life in 'Dodgeball 2'.
