Oxegen festival organisers and the Road Safety Authority are today appealing to fans to use public transport.

Road safety announcements are being broadcast at the music festival venue at Punchestown Racecourse throughout the weekend, in an effort to raise awareness of the potential dangers on the roads.

Four young people who attended the festival last year were killed when their car crashed on the way home. Some criticised the organisers for allegedly ushering drivers out of car parks too soon after the end of the festival.

Noel Brett of the Road Safety Authority has strongly urged drivers to be careful, particularly if weather conditions are bad.
