MCD has confirmed that the Oxegen Music Festival won't go ahead this year.
The promoter's issued a statement on their website, saying:
"It is with regret that MCD announce that OXEGEN will not take place this year due to lack of suitable Headline Acts which combined with the financial demands by local agencies make it no longer viable to stage the Festival in its current form."
Showbiz Journalist Alexandra Ryan, with
, said she was "not surprised at all" and that last year's festival was "absolutely dead … I could literally count the people on my hand."The long running festival, which is held at Punchestown racecourse in Co Kildare, has been a fixture in the Irish music calendar since 2004, apart from a one year break in 2012.
Coldplay, REM. and Beyonce are among high profile acts that have performed over the years, often before crowds of around 80,000.
Last year’s event was downsized from past festivals and was headlined by David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Snoop Dogg.
