Lohan struggling with life behind bars

Lindsay Lohan is having a “difficult time” adjusting to prison life.

The ‘Mean Girls’ actress started her sentence for breaching probation at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, today and was tearful when her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley visited her soon after her admission to the facility.

Shawn said: "Understandably, Lindsay's having a difficult time adjusting, as it would be for anyone.

"She's trying to make the necessary adjustments to an extremely stressful and difficult situation. There were some tears."

The 24-year-old star is not expected to be allowed to receive more visitors until the weekend but her lawyer insists she did her best to keep her spirits up.

She added to People.com: "Generally, the first two days in jail are the most difficult. I just kept reminding her of that. She's doing the best she can.

“Her spirits aren't high but I spoke to some of the deputies and they said Lindsay's reaction is the same as anyone in her situation."

Lohan is expected to serve around 14 days of the 90-day sentence she was given for breaching the terms of probation set for her 2007 driving under the influence conviction.

After leaving prison, she is required under the terms of her punishment to spend 90 days in a rehabilitation facility.
