Yesterday Ryan Tubridy was confirmed as John Murray’s replacement on RTÉ Radio One.
The news came after John Murray announced he was leaving the slot last month and Brendan O’Connor filled in as his replacement.
And as today was O’Connor last stint on the show, who else would he interview only Tubbs himself - and it went something like this:
Brendan didn’t hold back and of course went straight for the kill to grill Tubridy on his feelings about the return to Radio One, after five years in Gerry Ryan's former slot at 2FM.
"You were getting too old for 2FM, weren't you?" Brendan digs.
"I think there’s probably truth in that," Tubridy replies.
"It’s not a station for old men. It’s time to come back and feel young again!"
After Tubridy chats about his upcoming trip to Africa, Brendan hilariously pretends to end the interview mid-way, “Anyway look, Thanks very much Ryan Tubridy”.
To which Tubs replies: “Thank you and goodnight if that’s all you want”.
O’Connor then admits he was told to stretch the interview out and Ryan very subtly tells him that he’s an “awful b*stard”.
Tubridy begins to get sentimental at one point and tries to thank his team at 2FM.
"I always think that sounds wanky to the people at home,” Brendan interrupts.
O'Connor, who previously hosted the Saturday Night Show, then suggested that Tubridy give his Late Late Show gig to someone else (Hint Hint).
"On Fridays, you’re up at 6am, you’re doing the Late Late till 1am … that's too much on a Friday," he said.
“I’d say if you were offered it you’d do it," Tubridy fired back.
“Would you not ask to do Monday to Thursday and have someone else come in and do Friday for you?" continued O'Connor.
