Kate working out in preparation for first live gigs in 35 years

Kate Bush has been working with a personal trainer to get ready for her London residency.

The reclusive singer - who hasn't performed live since 1979 - begins the first of 22 shows at Hammersmith Apollo next Tuesday and is hoping exercise will improve her vocals and boost her stamina.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Kate has been working with a personal trainer. It's not about vanity -- she wants to improve her stamina.

"Doing 22 shows is quite something. It's a small, hot venue and she wants her vocals to be as good as possible. Breathing and fitness are key to that."

The 'Wuthering Heights' singer is said to be particular nervous about coming under scrutiny by more people than just her audience.

The source added: "This is huge for her. But she's nervous about the new pressures -- like everyone having a camera on their iPhone."

Earlier this week, the 56-year-old star pleaded with fans not to take pictures or film the concerts.

She said: "We have purposefully chosen an intimate theatre setting rather than a large venue or stadium.

"It would mean a great deal to me if you would please refrain from taking photos or filming during the shows."
