Jolie enlists Coen brothers to spruce up film script

The Coen brothers are rewriting Angelina Jolie's 'Unbroken' script.

The iconic filmmakers have signed on to update the draft screenplay of the Hollywood actress' new project, based on Laura Hillenbrand's best-selling novel, 'Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption', according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be based on the true story of 1936 Olympics athlete Louis Zamperini, who served as a US Army Air Forces bombardier in World War II, survived a plane crash and lived on a raft for 47 days, before being captured and sent to a Japanese prison camp.

Angelina jumped on board as director in December after Francis Lawrence dropped out. Previous versions of the script were penned by William Nicholson and Richard LaGravenese.

The drama marks Angelina's second time behind the camera after the success of her directorial debut 'In The Land Of Blood And Honey'.

The 'Salt' star was reportedly very picky about choosing top-flight writers to help her tackle the script, before opting for the 'No Country for Old Men' filmmaking duo.

Joel and Ethan have rarely taken on script writing for other people and usually both direct and produce their own work, but recently put their name to art heist comedy 'Gambit', which starred Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz.
