Grammy-winning singer Hozier released a video yesterday encouraging fans to vote yes in the upcoming marriage equality referendum.
“My name is Andrew Hozier-Byrne and I am straight up for Equality,” he tells the camera.
In the video, Hozier outlines his reasons for supporting the yes vote: "The movement for marriage equality has my full support, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind. I firmly believe that the upcoming referendum is not simply a gay rights issue, or a civil rights issue, but one of basic human rights."
“To anyone in my generation, like me, who feels that their values have long gone unrepresented by the word of law, and want to be proud to live in a nation that does not discriminate or implicitly condemn, I strongly encourage you to vote.”
Hozier joins the ray of well-known Irish faces who have spoken out in favour of the yes vote, including Colin Farrell, Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain, PJ Gallagher, Bressie, Amy Huberman, Kodaline and The Script.
