The sun broke through the clouds overhanging the Electric Picnic main arena in Stadbally as Co Meath natives, Ham SandwicH took to the main stage.

Anticipation among the gathering crowd grew as they awaited the first act to take to the main stage at Electric Picnic 2015.

Band member Niamh Farrell welcomed the crowd to the festival and thanked them for coming to see Ham SandwicH.

With that the first strum of the guitar and beat of the drum sounded over the speakers.

The opening song warmed up the crowd for the set ahead as more gathered to the main stage area to join the growing lively atmosphere.

After the first two songs, Podge McNamee asked the crowd, “Are you all pitched up and ready for the weekend?” A roaring response “yes” from the crowd led him to compliment everyone saying, “Aren’t you all very organised.”

There was a positive response to the song, Illuminate, from the crowd as people cheered when they recognised the first line of the popular song.

Podge McNamee commented on how thankful they were for the crowd’s response saying, “I thought there would be twenty-five people and a few cousins here.”

Niamh said, “thanks to the organisers for allowing us to play on the main stage. I don’t think I’m going to stop smiling, my face actually feels sore.”

Ham SandwicH closed their set with the song Ants that Niamh dedicated to her “dad, Maria, Amy and Adam who just made it up to see us.”

The crowd applauded as the song finished and Niamh thanked the crowd for supporting Ham Sandwich at Electric Picnic after ending the set.

“Enjoy your weekend and look after one another,” she said.

The band who consists of members Podge McNcNamee, Niamh Farrell, Brian Darcy, David McEnroe and Ollie Murphy also played on the Other Voices stage at 10:30pm tonight.

Electric Picnic is set to be a great weekend for Irish acts with Ham SanwhicH setting the bar high as the first band to take on the main stage.
