Grammy nominations date is announced and they’re switching it up

The nominees for the 2015 Grammy Awards will be announced on the morning of December 5, except for one category: album of the year.

The nominees for the top prize will come later that day when the Recording Academy debuts a TV special, A Very Grammy Christmas, which will feature Pharrell Williams and Ariana Grande.

The Grammys first launched a televised concert announcing its main nominees in 2008.

Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow said it was time to switch it up.

The one-hour Christmas special will be recorded on November 18 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Show producer Ken Ehrlich said nominees for album of the year will be announced towards the end of the programme.

The Grammys will air live on February 8.
