Ferrell set for Comedic Genius Award

Will Ferrell is to be honoured at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.

The 45-year-old actor will receive the first-ever Comedic Genius Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the world of comedy at the ceremony held on Sunday April 14.

Will's work ranges from a seven-year stint on 'Saturday Night Live' beginning in 1995 to roles in hit films such as 'Elf, 'Anchorman' - for which he will be reprising his role as Ron Burgundy in the sequel, 'The Legend Continues' - and his latest movie 'The Campaign'.

Stephen Friedman, President of MTV, describes the funnyman's career as "extraordinary" and thinks there is no one more worthy of the newly-introduced prize.

He said: "Will Ferrell epitomizes what it means to be a comedic genius and it's only fitting that he should be the inaugural recipient of this award.

"Over the course of his extraordinary, 17-plus-year career, he has entertained audiences across the globe with an impressive array of laugh-out-loud performances on air, online and in films. Simply put, Will Ferrell is 'kind of a big deal'."

Will will also be showing off his crowd-pleasing skills by helping 'Bridesmaids' actress Rebel Wilson host the event.

The actor's other accomplishments include launching user-generated website Funny or Die in 2007 and receiving the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2011.

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards will be broadcast on Monday 15 April at 9pm on MTV UK.
