The new series of 'Doctor Who' will feature 14 "big, blockbuster-movie episodes".

Filming is underway for season seven of the hit sci-fi drama - which will see Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan depart their roles as Rory Williams and Amy Pond - and show bosses have promised plenty of drama in the build up to the show's 50th anniversary.

BBC chiefs have promised a "dramatic turn of events when The Doctor meets a new friend", new monsters and "familiar foes", while there will also be a string of guest stars.

Among those announced to appear alongside Matt Smith in the lead role are 'Harry Potter' actors Mark Williams and David Bradley - who starred in the wizard franchise as Arthur Weasley and Argus Filtch respectively - and 'Sherlock' star Rupert Graves.

Though she is leaving the show, Karen is looking forward to some of her "craziest" experiences ever on the programme.

She said: "It's just brilliant to be back on the Tardis with Matt and Arthur for our craziest adventures yet."

Matt is equally delighted to be back.

He said: "It's thrilling and exciting to be back and working with two of my closest friends."

'Doctor Who' returns to BBC One in the autumn.
