Reese Witherspoon was named best actress for Walk The Line at the Oscars today.
The 29-year-old played Johnny Cash’s wife June Carter in the biopic of his early years.
Witherspoon made the night’s longest – and most emotional – speech.
“Oh my goodness, I never thought I would be up here in my whole life,” she said.
“My grandmother was my inspiration, and she taught me to have strength and self-respect and never to give those things away,” said Witherspoon. “Those were qualities I saw in June Carter... People used to ask how she was and she would say, ‘I’m just trying to matter’.
“I know what she means. I’m just trying to matter.”
