Zorzi holds her lead
27/05/2006 - 16:27:29Defending champion Veronica Zorzi remains the woman to beat in the Vediorbis French Open at Arras Golf Club , with a 69 giving her a three shot halfway lead on seven under 209.
The 25-year-old Italian had five birdies to stay ahead of the pack.
England’s Laura Davies raised her hopes of ending a long victory drought after a third round 68.
Davies moved into joint second place alongside France’s Stephanie Arricau on four under after a round of five birdies in blustery conditions.
She finished second in last week’s Swiss Open, and hopes to go one better tomorrow and end a victory drought stretching back to the Australian Women’s Open more than two years ago.
Davies, who had missed seven cuts from eight tournaments on the LPGA Tour this season, said after today’s round: “Four under was a pretty decent score today.
“I’ve had such a terrible run in America over the past weeks that coming back to Europe and doing so well has been great for the confidence.
“I wanted to play more over here this summer to gain some Solheim Cup points and, so far, it’s all going according to plan.”
Hampshire’s Kirsty Taylor, joint second overnight, had a 71 and was in a three-way tie for fourth place on two under.
