Villeneuve confident
02/06/2005 - 15:33:27Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve believes he can find his way back into Sauber’s good books by delivering a strong performance on home ground next week.
The Canadian was not a popular man in the Sauber pit after taking team-mate Felipe Massa out of the running with an ill-judged move in Monaco and he did little to alleviate the tension with a mediocre showing last weekend at the Nurburgring.
But Villeneuve, whose best finish of fourth came courtesy of disqualifications at Imola, hopes to give Peter Sauber reason to celebrate in Montreal next weekend.
He said: “I’m definitely looking forward to my home race. It should be one of our good races this year because we are good on soft tyres.
“It’s great to race there. The crowd is really something, they really enjoy their racing.”
“I’ve only had a second place there – and that wasn’t good enough,” he joked. “I only had two seasons in a car I could win in and there are a few tracks I missed out.”
