Villeneuve aims to repay Renault faith
18/10/2004 - 13:40:35Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve wants to finish his brief stint at Renault with his first points for over a year.
The Canadian was brought in to replace Jarno Trulli at Renault as they attempted to kick start their challenge for second place in the constructors’ championship.
But Villeneuve, who had not raced since leaving BAR a race before the end of the 2003 season, has proved ring rusty and is yet to get on the scoresheet.
His last points came in September last year at Monza and he is determined to reward Renault’s faith in his by scoring again in the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend, the final race of the season.
He said: “I enjoy Interlagos – it is a tricky, challenging circuit, where we run the cars quite light on downforce, which means they can be delicate to drive over the bumps and through the middle sector of the circuit.
“In terms of results, I want to end my time at Renault with a good performance after two hard races and bring something back to the team. I definitely want to finish in the points.”
