VHI to seek premium price increase

04/07/2005 - 18:30:49

The VHI is to seek a price increase of 12.5% in premia from this September to cover the rising cost of healthcare.

But the company has told the Tánaiste it will continue to finance the cost of community rating from its own reserves for as long as possible.

The health insurance body was responding to Ms Harney's decision not to introduce risk equalisation in the sector.

The increase will mean an annual rise of €61 for an adult on Plan-B or a €165 increase for a family with two children.

Last year, premia for VHI's 1.5 million members went up by 3%.
