Union chief upbeat ahead of talks with Government

General Secretary of IMPACT Peter McLoone says he is upbeat ahead of today's "difficult and challenging" talks on resolving the public-sector pay row.

The talks between the Government and public-sector unions are underway in a bid to avert further strike action.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen issued the invitation last night in an attempt resolve the dispute over pay cuts.
