Top spot up for grabs

Tiger Woods and Ernie Els could both knock Vijay Singh off the top of the world rankings at the Masters this week.

Els, who last held the position in 1998 and then only for four weeks, needs to win to have a chance – and would still be denied if Singh is in a two-way for third or Woods in a two-way tie for second.

Woods has to finish in the top five on Sunday to have a chance. If he wins he will regain top spot and will also go there if he finishes second as long as it is not the Fijian who wins.

A third-place finish will take Woods back to number one as long as Singh is worse than fourth or Els does not win.

Fourth will be good enough if Singh is worse than 12th and Els does not win, while fifth will do if Singh is worse than 51st and Els does not win.
