Time On given Classic quotes
11/05/2006 - 10:43:39Time On gave her connections plenty of food for thought with an emphatic victory in the Weatherbys BankCheshire Oaks at Chester.
The daughter of Sadler’s Wells is not entered in the Vodafone Oaks and it will cost owner Robert Barnett £20,000 (€29,300) to add her to the field for the Epsom Classic.
But after she had made all the running under Frankie Dettori to beat Mont Etoile by three lengths, Will Edmeades, Barnett’s racing manager, said: “I think she probably will be supplemented. That’s our initial reaction.”
Stan James introduced her into their Oaks list at 12-1 with Coral and totesport quoting a more generous 14-1.
After treating his fans to a flying dismount, Dettori said: “On this performance they should think about the Oaks.
“I don’t know what the options are but she’s done it really well. She’s entitled to be put in the race.
“She would really act round Epsom. She’s proved she stays and has good tactical speed and that’s what you need at Epsom.”
Dettori was completing a 17-1 double having delighted his supporters by booting Mubaashir home in the opening Joseph Heler Cheese Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes.
Cav Okay was sent off at 4-11 for the five-furlong dash but the hot favourite had no answer to the winner’s finishing kick as the Ed Dunlop-trained 5-1 shot powered home to score by a length and a half.
A step up to six furlongs is now on the cards for Mubaashir, as Dunlop explained: “He might go to Epsom for the Woodcote, a Listed race over six furlongs. Epsom should suit him.
“If we miss Epsom then he could go to Royal Ascot for the Coventry.”
Cashmans go 5-1 from 9-1 Mubaashir for the Coventry Stakes.
Champion jockey Jamie Spencer broke his Roodee duck when he made all the running on Divine Gift in the Breitling Watches & Waltons Of Chester Handicap.
The Kevin Ryan-trained gelding settled well in the lead before stretching away to beat Nice Tune by one and a quarter lengths.
Spencer said: “I was beaten a short head in the Dee Stakes last year and this is my first winner here.
“When I worked for Luca Cumani he never had many runners here and Godolphin didn’t either.”
Admiral had made all to win the totesport Chester Cup and Galient became the fourth horse to do so on the day when he held on to score by a length from Daylami Star.
Trainer Michael Jarvis said: “He’s an out-and-out stayer but he should be because his dam won the Queen’s Vase and he’s by a top mile-and-a-half horse, so staying is his forte.
“He runs in the Queen’s Vase next.”
Barry Hills rarely leaves Chester empty-handed and so it proved once again when he saddled Captain Marvelous to win the closing Grant Thornton UK EBF Maiden Stakes.
The 11-8 favourite over came a sluggish start to beat Benllech by a length and a quarter.
Hills said: “This is a very laid-back horse. He missed the break and just did enough to win but he’s done well to get there.”
