Spacey hopes for turnaround in theatre's fortunes
10/05/2006 - 15:41:23Kevin Spacey has insisted he is "in it for the long haul" as head of London's Old Vic Theatre - and plans to star in one of the theatre's forthcoming plays.
The Oscar-winning actor's track record at the venue has been criticised, with many poor reviews for previous shows.
He is to appear in 'A Moon for the Misbegotten', and hopes two Shakespeare comedies will turn around his fortunes.
Comedian Stephen Fry will also write a new pantomime version of 'Cinderella' to be performed over the Christmas period next year.
Kevin Spacey is two years into a decade-long contract as artistic director of the famous venue.
However, critics suggested he should resign after a production of Arthur Miller's 'Resurrection Blues' - directed by Robert Altman and starring Neve Campbell - closed early, with one actress leaving before the end of its run.
His supporters counter that twice as many people came to the theatre during his first 12 months in charge than attended during the two preceding years.
