SIMI: Industry will lose 10,000 jobs without scrappage scheme

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry has said the motor industry will lose 10,000 more jobs if a scrappage scheme isn't introduced by the Government.

The society said the industry in Ireland is "in dire straits" in its pre-Budget submission today.

It said scrappage is the "only show in town" if the industry is to survive, and insists it will protect jobs, increase the Government tax take, and reduce CO2 emissions.

SIMI Director General Alan Nolan said the scrappage scheme is a "no-brainer".
