Report shows gender gap in education is widening
04/06/2007 - 08:36:33Girls are continuing to outperform boys in exams, according to a new Higher Education Authority report.
It looked at the performance of young men in the Leaving Cert, who were outperformed by girls in practically every subject at higher level.
Less than 40% of boys accepted places on courses requiring 450 points or more compared to 61% of girls.
77% of students studying medicine and related courses are female, and 60% of all law places are taken up by girls.
