Preston move for Pearson
04/01/2006 - 09:21:51Preston manager Billy Davies has confirmed his interest in Celtic midfielder Stephen Pearson – and wants to sign the 23-year-old sooner rather than later.
The Hoops player has struggled to make an impact at Parkhead since signing from Motherwell two years ago.
However, his goal against Hearts in the Bank of Scotland Premier League on New Year’s Day after coming on as a second-half substitute began the Glasgow side’s fine comeback which resulted in a 2-0 deficit being turned into a 3-2 win.
An injury to Stilian Petrov, whom Pearson replaced at Tynecastle, has led the SPL league leaders to hesitate about selling the ex-Well player but Davies told the Scottish Sun: “Our understanding is that Celtic want to leave a deal for a week or two until their injury list settles.
“I respect that but I have to look at what is good for Preston and we need Stephen now if we can get him.
“We have the identified the player – I asked my chairman to make contact and we have done that.
“We have not made any bid yet but they will know of our interest now and we will see how it progresses throughout the transfer window.”
