New scheme aims to help disadvantaged people quit smoking
01/06/2005 - 08:18:35The Health Service Executive and the Irish Cancer Society have established a pilot project aimed at helping people in disadvantaged areas give up smoking.
As part of the scheme, community workers in seven housing estates in the north-east have been trained to encourage residents to kick the habit.
Up to 50% of residents in the estates are smokers.
