Mullins agrees new Hammers deal
04/10/2005 - 23:20:49West Ham midfielder Hayden Mullins has signed a new five-year deal to keep him at Upton Park until 2010.
Mullins, 26, has been an ever-present in the Hammers side this season since their promotion to the Premiership.
And he becomes the latest player to commit himself to the London club after Nigel Reo-Coker also penned a five-year deal last week.
Manager Alan Pardew told the club’s website, www.whufc.co.uk: “I know it’s been difficult for him but he’s come through all the criticism and he deserves every bit of credit he’s getting at the minute.
“He’s filled in at right-back and left-back, but we’ve got so much more cover now and we’re stronger in all areas that he’s been able to settle down in his preferred role.
“Some of the work he does goes unnoticed, although it doesn’t go unnoticed in the team. He’s well respected and well liked and that’s very important.”
Mullins himself, meanwhile, hopes the Hammers will be in thetop flight for “a long time yet”.
“It’s early days at the moment, none of the boys are getting carried away,” he told Sky Sports News.
“We’re just trying to take every week as it comes and at the moment we are doing really well. Wigan and Sunderland have picked up wins and they look to be doing well.
“It’s early days but hopefully we won’t be one-year wonders, we’ll be in this division for a long time yet.”
