Midlands golfers set for finals battle
24/07/2006 - 09:41:36The cream of Irish ladies’ golfing talent from across the midlands district will this week battle it out at Birr Golf Club for a place in the national final of the inaugural AA Insurance Ladies Championships.
Courtown, Edenderry, Moate, Arklow, Rathdowney, Boystown, Cill Dara, Carlow, The Heath, Rosslare and Gowran Park have all qualified for the final to be held this Saturday.
The strongest team in contention is Courtown, playing in two final competitions - the Singles Junior and Minor Cups. Their performance throughout the competition has been particularly strong, having previously secured a place in the quarter finals of all four Singles competitions.
The Singles Junior Cup will be a key match to watch as Courtown meet their strongest opponent Edenderry. Edenderry’s play has also been impressive throughout the competition, securing them a place in three of the four Singles quarter final competitions.
Wicklow and Wexford will be the best-represented counties in the competition, each with two clubs in play: Arklow and Boystown golf clubs for Wicklow and Courtown and Rosslare golf clubs for Wexford.
