Gardaí today arrested a man in his 20s in connection with a gangland-style shooting in Meath.

The man is believed to be the prime suspect for the attack on a 28-year-old man in a pub in Duleek on Wednesday night.

A Garda spokesman said that officers investigating the shooting had arrested a man in Dublin this afternoon.

“He is currently detained in Navan under section 30 of The Offences against The State Act,” he said.

The man can be held for questioning for up to 72 hours.

Locals were shocked when a gunman burst into the pub late on Wednesday night and fired a number of shots at a customer who was having a drink.

But the victim fought back, despite being shot in the stomach, and the gunman fled.

Gardaí recovered the gun used in the attack and have been analysing it for crucial forensic and ballistic evidence.

The victim was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment but was said to be in a stable condition.
