Israeli airstike targets Gaza home
21/08/2006 - 22:08:48Israeli aircraft fired two missiles at a home in a northern Gaza refugee camp late tonight, and ambulances were racing to the scene, witnesses said.
There were no details on casualties.
The Israeli army, which has been conducting an offensive in Gaza for nearly two months, had no immediate comment.
The owner of the home, Hashem Asliya, 45, an activist with the Islamic Jihad militant group, was not there at the time of the airstrike.
He said he had been warned by the army shortly before the airstrike to leave the house. He said his son, Mohammed, suffered a broken leg while jumping out of the home at the time of the attack.
“Even if they killed me and my family, resistance must continue. We will not stop the fight,” he said.
Islamic Jihad, a radical group backed by Iran and Syria, has carried out numerous suicide bombings and rocket attacks against Israel.
The Israeli army said the home had been used to store weapons.
Israel has been conducting an offensive in Gaza for nearly two months since militants crossed the border and captured an Israeli soldier. The soldier has not been freed.
