Irish film claims two awards in US
01/05/2007 - 11:10:13A critically- acclaimed Irish film has scooped two major awards at a major US film festival.
'Small Engine Repair' won both the Best Feature and Audience Award for Best Film at the Nashville Film Festival.
Starring Iain Glen and Steven Mackintosh, the film was written and directed by Niall Heery and features a strong country music soundtrack with John Prine, Bobby Bare Jnr and Todd Snyder, many of whom attended the Nashville screening.
Premiering at the Galway Film Fleadh last July, 'Small Engine Repair' has already secured a number of prestigious awards.
These include the Best Film at the Galway Fleadh, the Breakthrough Award for writer/director at the 2007 Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) and the Directors Choice Award at the Boston Irish Film Festival last year.
The film also claimed the Audience Award and Best Actor for Steven Mackintosh at the Cherbourg-Octeville British-Irish Film Festival in March.
'Small Engine Repair' has been picked-up by the UK-based Guerilla Films, which has secured the rights for the UK and Ireland.
It plans to release the film in Ireland in early July, with the UK release following later that month.
