Inquest into Anabels death to reopen in Dublin today

The inquest into the death of 18-year-old Brian Murphy during a fight outside a Dublin nightclub six years ago is due to reopen today.

Mr Murphy died in August 2000 following the fracas outside Anabels nightclub in the south of the city.

The inquest into his death was opened and adjourned shortly afterwards pending the outcome of criminal proceedings against four men accused of involvement in the disturbance.

Reports this morning said today's hearing at Dublin Coroner's Court was expected to be preliminary, with the full inquest not expected to get underway for several months.

State Pathologist Marie Cassidy is reportedly set to be called as a witness after disagreeing with the conclusions of her predecessor, Professor John Harbison, in relation to the cause of death.

Prof. Harbison concluded at the time that Mr Murphy died from swelling of the brain due to severe facial injuries, but Dr Cassidy says the injuries were minor and alcohol probably played a role in the death.
