Hain says IRA is on irreversible path away from violence
04/10/2006 - 09:08:48UK Secretary for the North Peter Hain has said he believes the IRA is on an irreversible path away from violence and the North's politicians should now get on with doing their jobs.
Mr Hain was responding to the latest assessment of the IRA ceasefire by the Independent Monitoring Commission.
In a report due to be published today, the IMC will say the IRA has begun to dismantle its internal structures and is no longer capable of returning to violence.
Speaking on the BBC, Mr Hain said he believed the republican movement was "absolutely locked in" to a move away from violence and paramilitarism.
In a veiled warning to the DUP, he added: "People need to make their minds up. People will want to know in Northern Ireland whether politicians are up to discharging their responsibilities and doing their jobs or not."
