Greens back No-Logo Day for students
26/02/2006 - 10:09:40The Green Party is encouraging students to cover up the logos on their clothes and shoes for one day next month for No-Logo day.
Thousands of no-logo stickers and information packs are being sent to secondary schools in support of the campaign, which aims to make students think about the influence of marketing and global trade on their buying habits.
Green Party TD, Eamonn Ryan said that he believes young people are under particular influence from marketers to wear certain brands.
Mr Ryan said: “Marketing and advertising works on all of us but I suppose particularly on young people - clothes is an important thing, you want to look good, you want to feel you’re part of the gang or whatever.
“So that’s a time when I think there’s real pressure on clothes and also it’s a time when you become aware of how the world really works, how the trading system works, and marketing works and that awareness in itself is a good thing,” he said.
