Few problems implementing smoke ban, says Mandate
25/03/2005 - 15:23:19The bar staff trade union Mandate has said 94% of its members say they have had little or no problems implementing the smoking ban.
The union was releasing independent research commissioned on the ban as the one year anniversary approaches this Tuesday, March 29.
There has been a 22% boost in support for the ban amongst bar workers, while 82% said that they are finding it easier to breathe at work. And 72% found that most of their regulars are still coming to the pub.
Mandate's General Secretary Designate, John Douglas said: "After one year there are no problems with enforcing it - the ban is self-enforcing - the public are very responsible."
"And to be fair to the bar owners themselves they have taken measures to ensure that the public is well aware of its responsibilities," he added.
