Fenlon thrilled as Shels reach Setanta final
16/05/2005 - 22:02:20Shelbourne manager Pat Fenlon was thrilled with the news that his side had reached the Setanta Cup final after Portadown beat Cork City 1-0 at Turner's Cross.
Fenlon did not even watch the game in which a Cork 2-0 victory would have seen them reach the final at Shelbourne's expense but admitted his delight at the result afterwards.
"I'm delighted and all credit must go to Portadown. They went into the game with nothing to play for but got a result from a difficult venue," he said.
Fenlon also admitted that, after his side picked up just one point from their opening two games when they drew 3-3 with Portadown before losing to Cork, he feared that his side faced an uphill battle to reach the final.
"I knew it was going to be a tight group but when the pressure was on in the last two games, we got the wins we needed. And, in hindsight, maybe those three goals against Portadown helped us go through because that goal difference made it hard for Cork tonight."
