C-sections at record numbers
24/11/2009 - 07:38:26The rate of Cesaerean-section deliveries in Ireland has reached record levels.
Figures from the three main Dublin maternity hospitals show there is a substantial difference in the rate of such procedures for public and private patients.
Almost one baby out of every three delivered privately in the Coombe hospital comes into the world via C-section.
Last year the figure for private patients was 32% compared with 21% for public and semi-private patients.
