Energy bills could rise again
04/11/2008 - 17:45:54Electricity and gas prices could be set to rise again.
Bord Gáis and the ESB have applied to the Commission for Energy Regulation for price increases that would come into effect from January.
If given the go-ahead, domestic customers will see their ESB bills rise by almost 6%, while Bord Gáis prices will rise 4%.
The proposals are open for consultation.
The Commission said it will publish its decision on December 1.
ISME, the Irish Small & Medium Enterprises Association, has reacted angrily to the ESB application for an increase after the hike of 17.5% in August.
ISME boss Mark Fielding: "These latest applications are unwarranted, unjustified and will do serious damage to companies attempting to keep their heads above water."
