Embassy: Obama Irish visit 'not confirmed'

11/03/2010 - 10:16:50

The American Embassy insisted today there is "nothing confirmed" about a visit by US President Barack Obama to Ireland.

The comments follow newspaper reports this morning that Mr Obama would make his first visit here in late June, including a trip to his ancestors' birthplace at Moneygall in Co Offaly.

A spokesperson for the embassy said that while US Ambassador Dan Rooney has expressed the hope that President Obama would make it over here during his first term in office, nothing has yet been arranged.
