Donetsk ace 'better than Rooney'
17/10/2004 - 15:15:56Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has warned Celtic they will be facing a better teenager than Wayne Rooney in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Donetsk’s Romanian forward Ciprian Marica, who is 19, will line up against the Hoops in Ukraine with praise of his coach ringing in his ears.
Lucescu said: “Marica is much better than Rooney. Ciprian is ambitious, has wonderful technique and is so fast.
“He has good control and could become one of the world’s best players.
“I have never seen a player of his age as good as Marica. I include Rooney in this.
“Rooney is powerful but Ciprian is more skilful. In two or three years he will be playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
